The finishing touches
The day before the fair starts: Setting-up work is still in full swing at Techtextil, so everything is ready for the opening.
Peter Korch is really looking forward to the opening. It is an anniversary for him: the proprietor of the “world’s only fair shop” has been selling cuddly animals, jewellery, toys and other small items to exhibitors, trade visitors and other trade-fair participants in the foyer of Hall 4.1 of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre for the last 20 years. “We are the answer to the question, have you brought me something from the fair”, says Korch who, before beginning his fair-shop activities, was responsible for advertising services at the Exhibition Centre, e.g., showcases and advertising towers. He got the idea for the fair shop from seeing a small exhibition stand at which knick-knacks were being sold from a pasting table. And what makes Techtextil stand out? “The visitors come from all over the world and are always very polite”, says Korch who can also boast regular customers who come to him during every Techtextil.
1,818 in 2019
The high degree of internationality at the fair was one of the subjects at the well-attended opening press conference. The 1,818 exhibitors taking part in Techtextil and Texprocess come from no less than 59 different countries. With 1,080 exhibitors from outside Germany, the level of internationality at Techtextil alone is 72 percent. In addition to major participating nations, such as Italy, China, France and the United Kingdom, new this year are companies from Brazil, Nepal, Morocco, Tunisia and Sri Lanka. “It is the biggest Techtextil ever”, says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies of Messe Frankfurt. And it opens tomorrow.
