Texfact of the week: Synthetic fibres on the rise

TexData reports that according to Bremen Cotton Exchange, the world’ s total fibre consumption will rise rapidly in the next years while cotton production is close to its limit. One reason is the huge growth of technical textiles and nonwovens, another the increase of world population.

Already today, synthetic fibres constitute the lion’s share of fibre production with some 58 % of global volumes. Global volumes is predicted to increase from 40 million tons to 56 million tons in 2020. This would mean a growth of 40 percent within six years. Still, cotton will continue to be the most popular fibre in the apparel industry in the near future.
