How Christo uses polyamide fabrics to cross a lake

In June 2016, Italy’s Lake Iseo will be reimagined thanks to a project called “The Floating Piers”. 70,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric, carried by a modular floating dock system of 200,000 high-density polyethylene cubes, will allow visitors to walk across the Lake from the mainland to an island. The 3-kilometer-long walkway is created by famous Bulgarian-American artist Christo, also known for his wrapping of the German Reichstag. Setex has been chosen to produce the special polyamide fabrics (German link). After the 16-day exhibition, all components will be removed and industrially recycled.
